Second Acoustic Guitar

Here's my second acoustic guitar. The top is made out of Spruce, the sides and back are made out of Amazaque, with Amazaque bindings and black/white/black accent stripe. It has a 5-piece laminated Mahogany neck, with Maple and Walnut center stripes. The fingerboard is Ebony, and Ebony is used for the headstock overlay.

This one has taken a whole lot less time than the first! I started it in November 2007, and it's almost finished; it should be complete by the end of March 2008, only the final finishing and assembly remains. Amazaque has deep holes in the grain. It's been quite a challenge to fill them... lots and lots of coats of lacquer, and sanding between the coats. I've finally gotten all the holes filled, so now I must wait a couple weeks until the lacquer is completely dried, before I can do the final sanding and polishing on the body.

In the meantime, here's how it looks prior to the finishing:

Here's the piece of Spruce that will become the top. I've already inlaid the abalone, and I'm getting ready to cut out the soundhole.

Drying

At this point, it's completely built, though not yet assembled (the neck is lying on the table). I'm still in the finishing steps here.

Finally, enough coats of lacquer are on to hide all the tiny holes in the wood. So, now it must dry for 2 weeks before I can do the final sanding. Do you like my handy drying rack? I built a "pseudo-neck" to hold the guitar up while the lacquer dries.

That's all for now folks.
